Vanishing Snow in the Mountain West
A new study suggests that in about 35 to 60 years, mountainous states will become almost entirely snowless for years at a time. Rising temperatures has led to the region losing 20 percent of its snowpack since the 1950s. In the western United States, snowpack is lower than normal and snow cover is the lowest it has been since 2003. Alongside this new development, atmospheric rivers are warming and dropping more rain, increasing the risk of flood.
