New Investment in the Climate Crisis
Alongside, the other funds allocated within the new infrastructure bill is a provision for climate change protection. With investments in roads, bridges, and transit, there are also funds providing for EV charging. This is a necessary step forward in providing a cleaner, more responsible way for Americans to interact with the environment. Investments for clean energy and grid-related product can improve the response to the climate crisis within the United States. We will have to keep a careful eye out that the promises for improving our climate response are met and carried out efficiently. There is an estimated cut to industrial CO2 emissions equaling 30% below 2005 levels. This is a far cry from President Biden's pledge of a 50% cut in greenhouse gases by 2030. While the infrastructure bill is an important step forward in making a difference in climate change, we will have to wait and see how the Biden administration follows through on their climate change promise.
