Aviation During the Climate Crisis
"Over time, it's going to cost us all more, but it's the right approach that we must take," Delta Air Lines chief executive Ed Bastian told the BBC. Aviation is responsible for 2.5% of carbon emissions causing global warming. To combat this issue, Delta has spent over $30 million a year on carbon-offsetting and has been carbon neutral since March 2020. Over the next decade, they have pledged to spend $1 billion to cancel their carbon emissions. Adjusting the aviation industry will be a difficult situation to assess because most critics suggest to fly less but this is unlikely to occur in reality. According to Delta's plan, by 2030, they will use 10% sustainable aviation fuel. Aviation corporations will need to reallocate their funds to efficiently make the efforts needed to utilize sustainable energy in their aircrafts for the future of our planet.
